Maine Lobstermen Unionizing

About 500 of the approximately 5,000 licensed lobstermen in Maine have joined the Maine Lobstering Union, trying to increase their share of the state's $1.5 billion industry. Members have to sell their catch to the union at competitive prices, and the union then sells the lobsters to vendors, eliminating the middle man; members also are promised and end-of-the-year dividend from union profits.
