Maine Company Sent 50,000 Pounds of Unpaid-For Lobster To China in Skimming Operation

A 46-year-old former employee of Maine Coast Shellfish in York, Maine pleaded guilty to having the company send $360,000 worth of lobster to an unknown client in China so he could skim more than $25,000 in commissions from his employer, according to federal prosecutors. The company wasn't paid for the lobster; the man could get up to 20 years in prison.

Twenty-year-olds could drink alcohol legally in private settings in New Hampshire but not purchase it until they turn 21, according to the bill. Its sponsor says it's designed to prevent binge drinking in college, but opponents say the mid-1980s move by the federal government to force states to raise their drinking age to 21 or else lose federal highway funding has saved lives by reducing drunken driving.
