DES MOINES, Iowa (AP) — The allegations read like a movie plot: a lottery industry insider installs an undetectable software program in the computers that pick winning numbers so he can know them in advance. He enlists accomplices to play those numbers and collect the jackpots. They enrich themselves for years until a misstep unravels the scheme.

But it was all too real, and today, investigators are fanning out across the nation to see how many state games were affected.

BOSTON (AP) — An all-girls Catholic prep school in Milton violated state anti-discrimination law by rescinding a job offer to a man in a same-sex marriage, a judge ruled, spurring a blistering attack from the Catholic Action League of Massachusetts on Thursday.

Matthew Barrett was offered a job as Fontbonne Academy's food services director in 2013, but the offer was withdrawn days later after he listed his husband as his emergency contact.
