Attorney John Deaton of Swansea cruised to victory in the Massachusetts Republican primary for U.S. Senate on Tuesday.
Deaton had 64.6 percent of the vote with 92 percent of the vote counted, according to the Associated Press. This gave him a substantial lead over Robert Antonellis of Somerville (26.2 percent) and Quincy City Council president Ian Cain.
The end of Catholic acute health care in eastern Massachusetts is in sight, as a bankruptcy judge has approved the sale of four nominally Catholic hospitals formerly run by the Archdiocese of Boston.
The current owner, Steward Health Care System LLC, filed for bankruptcy on May 6, and is in the process of trying to sell the hospitals it runs.
