Hitch-hiking robot’s journey from Boston ends in Philly

PHILADELPHIA (AP) — A hitchhiking robot that captured the hearts of fans worldwide met its demise in the U.S.

The Canadian researchers who created hitchBOT as a social experiment told The Associated Press that someone in Philadelphia damaged the robot beyond repair early Saturday, ending its first American tour after about two weeks.

This past Friday, remnants of the past were found in one of the least expected places: Government Center T station. Hidden behind a door jam in what used to be an entrance to the former Scollay Station was a 1915 edition of the Boston Post. A construction worker on site was the one to find the paper.

This section of Government Center has been abandoned for decades according to the MBTA. When re-opened, that part of the station will serve as an emergency egress from the Blue Line platforms.
