Glorious Shrine Closed Forever May Get Second Chance

Fall River Catholics hoping to save one of the prettiest churches in New England are in talks with the local bishop to try to take over St. Anne's Shrine.

The spectacular double-spired granite church – "Visitors to the church are often stunned by its grandeur," says the Fall River Herald News – closed permanently on November 25, 2018 because it needs $13.5 million in repairs that the Diocese of Fall River doesn't have and priests the diocese can't spare.

Heroin Overdoses Spike in Fall River

A potent fentanyl-laced batch of heroin has led to a spike in overdoses in Fall River, including one fatal.

Fifty-four people have overdosed in February, including 26 in the past nine days – many of them after taking their typical dose of heroin, according to the Fall River Herald News.
