Halifax resident Summer Schmaling, who is running for state representative as a Republican in the Twelfth Plymouth District, recently received the backing of a former member of the state Legislature.
Schmaling, who is running against incumbent state Representative Kathleen LaNatra (D-Kingston), earned the backing of Geoff Diehl, a Whitman Republican who represented the Seventh Plymouth District in the Massachusetts House of Representatives from 2011 to 2019. Diehl was also the Republican nominee for U.S. Senate in 2018.
Governor Charlie Baker is mulling applications to fill two vacancies on the state's highest court.
Once he nominates candidates and the Governor's Council confirms them, Baker will have selected every justice on the Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court.
