From Nomans Land To Bunny Island?
Nomans Land, a small island three miles south of Gay Head on Martha's Vineyard, has been uninhabited since the 19th century; the U.S. Navy bombed it for decades in the latter part of the 30th century. Now, the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, which considers the island an important way station for migrating birds, hopes to introduce a colony of New England cottontails, which thrive in the kind of young, dense, bushy forest that is declining in Massachusetts because of development.
