Franklin Town Clerk Resigns After Mail-In-Vote-Counting Problems In September 1 Primary

The town clerk in Franklin, Massachusetts has announced her resignation after problems arose when counting votes in the state's September 1 primary election.

Teresa Burr's resignation will take effect on Friday, September 18. It comes after Franklin had about 3,000 uncounted votes two days after the election ended — even though Burr initially told Massachusetts Secretary of the Commonwealth Bill Galvin's office there were only about 600 left. The undercount involved mail-in votes.

For the first time in Maine's history, an openly transgender person got elected to public office last week.

Geo Neptune, a biological male and American Indian, who identifies as a two-spirit, was elected to the school board in Indian Township. Neptune uses the they/them pronouns, as Maine Public reports.
