Feds Charge Providence Man With Arson In Torching of Police Cruiser During Riots

Federal authorities have arrested a 34-year-old man who lives in Providence, Rhode Island on a charge of arson during the riots in that city in early June.

According to prosecutors, Luis Joel Sierra was on pretrial release for two state charges of heroin trafficking when he leaned into a Providence police cruiser and used a lighter and flammable liquid to set it on fire, destroying it, according to The Providence Journal.

State officials are banning rafting of boats, citing the coronavirus emergency.

"All recreational crafts must remain a safe distance apart. Rafting-up vessels in prohibited," states an amended advisory from the Massachusetts Executive Office of Energy and Environmental Affairs, dated Friday, August 14.
