Kate Brown, a self-identified bisexual married to a man since 1997, unexpectedly became governor of Oregon in February 2015 when the previous governor resigned because of a criminal investigation of him and his fiancee. Brown was Secretary of State at the time and therefore next in line to become governor of the state, which has no office of lieutenant governor.
