Drug addiction in the Bay State

BOSTON – In Thursday night's State of the Commonwealth Address, Gov. Charlie Baker called for bold actions to break the back of the beast of addiction.

Baker looks to disrupt a status-quo adherence to treatment plans that haven't proven successful in combating opioid and heroin use. He directs those he once considered peers in the health care industry to seek new ways to educate, prevent, intervene and treat those who face the dire illness that tragically touches so many.

Common Core supporters sue to prevent vote

BOSTON –  Supporters of Common Core sued Friday to prevent Massachusetts voters from having an opportunity to weigh in on whether the Commonwealth should keep or scrap the controversial federal standards.

The 10 plaintiffs – including a former education commissioner, business leaders, parents and one teacher – filed suit against Attorney General Maura Healey and Secretary of State William Galvin in the Supreme Judicial Court, arguing that a proposed ballot measure to "End Common Core" is not technically valid.
