During the past 12 years the Abortion Rights Fund of Western Massachusetts has "pledged nearly $640,000" to "over 2,500 people" for abortions, according to a Smith College professor.

Carrie N. Baker, co-president of the organization, wrote a column about it for the Hampshire Daily Gazette. She is a professor and director of the Program for the Study of Women and Gender at Smith College.

Police Officer Pleads Guilty To Immigration Fraud — Never Planned To Marry Sister of Common-Law Wife

A veteran western Massachusetts police officer has pleaded guilty to immigration fraud for falsely claiming he intended to marry the sister of his common-law wife in order to help get her into the United States from Vietnam.

Nhac Duy Truong, 44, who retired Wednesday, February 20 from the Chicopee Police Department as part of a plea deal, submitted the fraudulent petitions for the woman in 2008 and 2009 and subsequently claimed he didn't even know the woman's sister, who is the mother of his two children, according to MassLive.com.
