Dog Pardon Pursued By Maine Governor

The principle of executive clemency is broad, says Main Governor Paul LePage, and he aims to defend it. Earlier this year he issued a pardon for a husky sentenced to death by a judge for attacking two smaller dogs in less than a year, but some state officials have said he doesn't have the power to do that.

Maine Governor Paul LePage, a Republican, said elderly people have the hardest time paying more money for electricity in order to provide government subsidies to solar-energy providers. Veto-proof majorities supported the measure in both houses of the Maine legislature, but it's not clear if those two-thirds margins will hold up on the final vote.
