Cruz faces make-or-break moment to stop Trump

LA PORTE, Ind. (AP) — Facing a make-or-break moment for his slumping campaign, Ted Cruz was blitzing through Indiana on Monday in a desperate bid to overtake Donald Trump in the state's Republican primary and keep his own White House hopes alive.

A victory for Trump in Indiana on Tuesday would be a dispiriting blow for Cruz, a U.S. Senator from Texas, and other forces trying to stop the New York billionaire from capturing the GOP nomination, leaving them with few opportunities to block his path. Trump is the only candidate in the race who can reach the 1,237 delegates needed to win on a first ballot through primary voting, though Cruz is trying to push the race toward a contested convention.
