Cirque du Soleil’s Varekai: Circus is not dead

Every time Cirque du Soleil comes to Boston, show goers are awed by the visual feast of the costumes and sets and by the acrobatic skills of the performers. Varekai, Cirque du Soleil's most recent show in Boston, was no exception.
Varekai's theme takes off where the tale of Icarus ends. Icarus of the Greek myth takes flight with a pair of wings his father made for him from feathers and wax. Not heeding his father's warning to keep a safe distance from the sun, Icarus disobeys. His wings melt and he falls into the sea. Varekai's story, begins with Icarus who sets off on "an adventure both absurd and extraordinary. On this day at the edge of time, in this place of all possibilities, begins an inspired incantation to life rediscovered."
