Chewing Gum Packaging Patent Holder Was Life of the Party

The patent holder for chewing gum packaging has died on Cape Cod, at 96.

Roger Putnam Jr. moved to Wellfleet in 1991 after retiring as chief executive and president of Package Machinery Company, in East Longmeadow, according to the Cape Cod Times.

A rare original copy of the Declaration of Independence is scheduled to be on display at the Commonwealth Museum on Columbia Point in Dorchester today.

Museum officials plan to exhibit the state's copy of the 1776 document, which is one of 14.
