Boston Man Sentenced For Role In Romance Scams

A resident of Boston was sentenced to 40 months in prison in connection with his involvement in extensive online fraud operations aimed at individuals across the United States, including romance and advance fee scams on Monday. These schemes led to a collective loss of over $1.3 million for about 30 victims, according to federal prosecutors.

Kelechi Collins Umeh, 40, from Boston (but previously living in Quincy), was sentenced by U.S. Senior District Judge William G. Young to the prison term and two years of supervised release. He was also ordered to reimburse $878,652.
