Black Former Police Chief Wins GOP Nomination for First Congressional District in New Hampshire

Former police chief Eddie Edwards edged out state Senator Andy Sanborn (R-Bedford) in the Republican primary for New Hampshire's First Congressional District on Tuesday.

Edwards has also served as head of law enforcement for the New Hampshire Liquor Commission and as a congressional staffer.

Maura Sullivan, a former U.S. Marine who had lived in New Hampshire less than a year when she announced a campaign for Congress, lost handily to Executive Councilor Chris Pappas in the Democratic primary Tuesday despite seriously outspending him.

Sullivan got financial backing from several Washington advocacy organizations, including Emily's List, which seeks to elect pro-abortion women, on her way to doubling Pappas's campaign funds.
