‘Angry White Men’ Need To Be Kept From Guns, Activist Says

A mass-shooting at a bar in California by a U.S. Marine combat veteran Wednesday night shows the need for more gun control, an activist said.

"It is a uniquely American problem and Congress is to blame. Every other developed Country has angry white men and mentally ill people but no other country arms them with easily concealed handguns and military style assault weapons without regulations and detection by law enforcement," said John Rosenthal, founder and chairman of Stop Handgun Violence, based in Beverly, Massachusetts, in a press release Thursday. "While the shooter's motives are still unclear, one thing is blatantly obvious:  The time for action is now."

Michael Cohen’s Guilty Plea Runs Afoul of Maimonides

The guilty plea of a former lawyer for the Trump Organization, Michael Cohen, on Augist 21 was reportedly motivated in part by Cohen's 83-year-old father, who supposedly told his son that he didn't "survive the Holocaust to have his name sullied by Mr. Trump."

It's unclear whether Michael Cohen or his father is aware of it, but Jewish law that long predates the Holocaust forbids the use of guilty pleas. That tradition may provide some useful perspective on Michael Cohen's confession and on the American criminal justice system that extracted it.
