ACLU Challenges Drug Charges From Border Patrol Checkpoint

Local, state, and federal law enforcement officers used drug-sniffing dogs when making stops in Woodville, New Hampshire as part of a Border Patrol checkpoint. The New Hampshire chapter of the American Civil Liberties Union says police and agents ignored provisions of the New Hampshire Constitution that protect privacy.

Thousands of drunken driving cases since 2011 are now in jeopardy because state officials failed to turn over to defense lawyers documents about machines designed to measure the blood alcohol content of drivers  from their breath. For years defense lawyers have challenged the reliability of the machines, particularly whether police departments make sure they are properly calibrated.
