12-Year-Old Cell-Phone-Talking Bicyclist Crashes Into Back of Truck

A 12-year-old girl riding her bike on the sidewalk while talking on a cell phone was injured when she lost control of the bike, swerved into the street, and struck the back of a dump truck, getting run over by the landscaping trailer the truck was towing.

The girl was taken to a hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, authorities told The Union Leader.

Thursday is a school day in Brockton, but school officials are sending at least two buses to Beacon Hill to stump for a bill that would change the state's local aid funding formula for schools.

Brockton, a poor city 25 miles south of Boston, is getting shafted when it comes to local aid for public schools from the state, local officials tell The Brockton Enterprise.
