# Republican Lt. Governor Candidate Anne Manning Martin Launches Write-In Campaign After Being Removed From Ballot

After a Massachusetts Supreme Judicial Court judge ruled she can't appear on the Sept. 1 primary ballot, Anne Manning Martin launched a write-in campaign Tuesday. 

"It was a rough road, I'm not going to sugar coat it, but it was your support that helped me get through," Manning Martin, a Republican candidate for lieutenant governor, said in a video posted on Facebook announcing her write-in campaign on Tuesday. 

The SJC ruled to scrub her name from the ballot after finding "substantial, if not overwhelming, evidence" that some of her nomination papers contained signatures that were not signed by voters. 

The ruling upheld a State Ballot Law Commission decision to disqualify Manning Martin from the ballot in the face of complaints that she submitted fraudulent nomination signatures and did not file the necessary 10,000 certified signatures.

"Voters deserve a choice and your write in on Tuesday, September 1, can send a powerful message that when we get knocked down, we get up again." 

To win a primary, write-in candidates must earn more votes than any other candidate and receive as many votes as the number of signatures they must file for the office they're seeking, according to the secretary of state's website. 

Insufficient nomination signatures also sunk the campaign of former Republican lieutenant governor candidate Anne Brensley, who has since chosen to pursue a write-in campaign for secretary of state. Republican Shawn Oliver of New Bedford is the only Republican lieutenant governor candidate on the party's primary ballot.
