A September spending surge has reduced Republican Mike Minogue's gubernatorial campaign coffers to about $1.5 million heading into the final month of his election matchup with Democrat Maura Healey, only enough cash for about a week of spending at last month's pace.

The Republican's [September bank report](https://ocpf.us/reports/displayreport?id=1045477&ref=newbostonpost.com), filed Friday with the Office of Campaign and Political Finance, shows that he spent $6.1 million last month as he took in about $1.8 million – by far the most the candidate has spent in a month and also his best month for contributions since March.

Minogue has largely self-funded his campaign for governor and the latest look at his campaign trail accounting does not detail the source of his September receipts.

Most of the campaign's expenditures appear to have gone towards advertising, including about $4.9 million to political media placement firm AxMedia. Minogue has carpeted airwaves with ads promoting his gas tax holiday plan and a donut-themed scene encouraging voters to try someone new.

There was also a $40,000 payment to the firm POOLHOUSE, which is run by former Mitt Romney and Scott Brown aide Will Ritter. Minogue's campaign warchest was stuffed to start May, just over $10 million. It has dropped 85% to about $1.5 million in five months, a span during which the campaign spent $13.33 million and took in $4.76 million.

Healey's campaign filed its [OCPF report for September](https://ocpf.us/reports/displayreport?id=1046293&ref=newbostonpost.com) just after 11 a.m. Monday. She had about $6.8 million on hand going into September and had been spending less than $250,000 a month since May.

Last month, her campaign reported, Healey spent about $4.1 million while taking in about $3.5 million. The Democratic State Committee's report also shows that it paid Archipelago Strategies about $95,000 for ad production and a media buy on Healey's behalf last month
