# Massachusetts Democrats Challenge Republican AG Candidate’s Ballot Signatures

Saying "See you in November, Attorney General Campbell," Lynnfield attorney and Republican AG candidate Michael Walsh appears ready to try to fend off a [challenge to his nomination signatures](https://www.statehousenews.com/news/politics/elections/complaints-seek-to-disqualify-two-statewide-gop-office-seekers/article%5Fe5b712ce-2d20-4a7d-a87a-70be6f43a019.html?ref=newbostonpost.com). 

Walsh on Wednesday night responded to a complaint that Democrats filed with the State Ballot Law Commission following a [review of his nomination signatures](https://www.statehousenews.com/tncms/asset/editorial/72e1f8b7-fc49-450a-971f-101930339670/?ref=newbostonpost.com) by party officials, who allege that [hundreds of signatures](https://www.statehousenews.com/tncms/asset/editorial/0c09e0c5-79ea-4971-9078-cbb3980aa411/?ref=newbostonpost.com) are fraudulent and that Walsh won't have the required minimum of 10,000 signatures to qualify for the ballot this year. 

"Rather than defending Andrea Campbell's indefensible record as Attorney General, the Democratic establishment is focused on political games, trying to disparage the popular candidate, and attempting to silence the will of Massachusetts voters," the Walsh campaign said in a statement. 

"Michael Walsh stands behind the rule of law and respects the legal processes established under Massachusetts election law. The campaign remains confident that voters - not political insiders - should decide who serves as the next Attorney General. More than 10,000 Massachusetts voters signed nomination papers supporting Walsh's candidacy because they want a real choice on the ballot and a serious discussion about public safety, accountability, and restoring trust in government." 

The Walsh campaign says voters deserve a choice for attorney general this year and "they are going to get one." 

While the Walsh campaign called Democratic Party Chair Steve Kerrigan "Andrea Campbell's attack dog," Democratic Party officials said Wednesday that they are confident that the 10,622 signatures Walsh filed will not all meet election integrity standards during hearings before the commission this month.
