It's a new documentary about the band that debuted at the Boston Film Festival, screened at the Wang Theatre within the Boch Center. The Hollywood Vampires are a rock supergroup featuring Alice Cooper, Aerosmith guitarist Joe Perry and actor Johnny Depp. The well-attended premier featured Hollywood actors and actresses, Aerosmith members and other rockers such as Alice Cooper. The director of the documentary, Emmy Award winner Daniel E. Catullo III, was also seen on the red carpet. Other than that, he said he is not entirely sure what Kramer has been up to. After the screening, rock reporter Eddie Trunk hosted a Q&A panel, where now-band mates Alice Cooper and Joe Perry concluded that back in the day, they were in competing bands. This came up after Perry reflected on the fact that he and Alice Cooper had crossed paths here and there, but “not really” throughout their careers. Cooper quipped back by telling the audience and Perry that it was because they were in “competition” with one another, being in different popular bands. Despite any longstanding cliches about rock band infighting, Perry told Trunk that The Hollywood Vampires get along really well with one another. “It’s like we all went to the same school together,” Perry joked. Even the much younger Johnny Depp can pick up on old song references that Alice Cooper and Perry recognize. Joe Perry told the audience that the reason why Aerosmith didn't go off the rails as early as they did was because they had the city of Boston behind them as an anchor during the early years of the band’s success. Other original members include John Lennon, Ringo Starr, Mickey Dolenz, Alice Cooper and more famed rockers. As a band, The Hollywood Vampires strives to keep the legacy of late rockers alive, such as Jim Morrison and Jimi Hendrix, Cooper told Trunk. Morrison and Hendrix both died at 27 years old. The band hopes to record another album and tour the United States again within the next year or so, although nothing is set in stone. Between the rockers’ other projects and Depp’s acting career, scheduling can get hectic for the supergroup. The movie should be available to the public by the end of the year.
